‘Vanity Fair’ and DF•CREATIVE Team Up to Create the First Moving Advertorial for a Digital Magazine

Vanity Fair’s advertorial pieces are the standard when it comes to advertising and photography. This project was an opportunity to build on that and push the medium where it had not gone before in a digital magazine. Vanity Fair Creative Director Leslie Bakke and photographer Art Strieber teamed with DFC and videographer Adam Grossman to bring it all together. We took the still photography and bridged it to the edited moving content to create a piece that cleverly goes from a still photo to a moving full frame video, showing the potential of tablet devices and the future of mobile content on digital magazines.

‘O, The Oprah Magazine’ De-Clutters the March 2011 Issue With a Word Jumble From DF•C

The result is a word jumble that “de-clutters” itself into the final cover. We also had the opportunity to contribute to two feature article pieces for this issue; one combines traditional stop motion photography as a reveal and the other CGI to enhance video and animated text.

DF•CREATIVE Breaks Down an AK-47 for WIRED Readers to Explore

It isn’t every day that a client calls and asks for a detailed part-by-part photo-real CGI replica of an AK-47 that can be animated into an exploded interactive piece for the iPad. Wired magazine was doing a feature on the gun and needed just this. Working closely with art director Alice Cho, we modeled and painted a detailed CGI gun to match the reference provided. In addition to the interactive animation, we rendered out a high resolution still of the exploded gun for the print edition of the magazine. The final pieces for the article involved a side view of the AK in the process of firing and an entirely CGI and digital matte painting of the gun firing at the viewer. Click here to see the work and breakdown videos that show how we made it all happen.
